Digital media has become a new frontier for heritage and cultural preservation. With the interactivity and accessibility of digital media, virtual environments have become increasingly popular tools for educational tours, on top of being a tool of archive and documentation.
As part of an ongoing digital conservation effort, this demo of the virtual site of the Armenian Church is based off measurements and photographs collected from the physical site itself, to ensure accuracy for documentation. Using a combination of digital modelling from construction drawings and UAV photogrammetry, the virtual environment is recreated with accurate dimensions and real-life textures.
The exterior of the Armenian Church is digitally preserved and arranged in a fully interactive and explorable PC app as well as VR app. Contact us for more information if you wish to experience the app.
The Armenian Apostolic Church of St Gregory the Illuminator is located at 60 Hill Street. Completed by March 1836, the Armenian Church is the oldest surviving church building in Singapore. The building was gazetted as a national monument on 6 July 1973.
Architectural Details
Using drone UAV photogrammetry, we mapped the textures of the church to a digital model created with documented dimensions as well as measurements taken from the site.
